Concern over the Wuhan coronavirus has prompted some Cleveland companies to contemplate whether they are capable of operating when the virus spreads to Ohio by letting employees work from home. Some major employers would need remote-work options in case they’re forced to quarantine employees exposed to the virus, or protect employees if outbreaks become more widespread.

And that planning could have long-term effects, speeding up a trend toward more employees routinely working remotely, one expert told cleveland.com .

“There’s a growing number of professionals, who because of high-speed conferencing technology, can now work at home,” said Michael Goldberg , an associate professor of design and innovation at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management and executive director of the university’s Veale Institute of Entrepreneurship.

“A lot of employees have wanted and mandated these kinds of abilities,” Goldberg said.

How would it work?
