Millennials now make up a large proportion of home buyers, with many entering their 30s and getting ready to invest in a first home.
But what are some of the things millennials are looking for in a home? And what are some of the big dealbreakers that drive away those born between 1981 and 1996 from investing in a particular home?
We asked three local experts about what they’ve seen millennials want in the Seattle area — and what they will stay away from.
In general, millennials are environmentally conscisous, so they’re looking for homes that are, too. And, for a lot of millennials, a home in a location with a high walk score is a must-have. Here’s what else they said.
Ben Stanfield, senior agent, RedFin
Ben Stanfield, a senior agent at Redfin, cited walkability as one of the key factors millennials are looking for when buying a home. Most clients, he said, are prioritizing a location with close proximity to parks, restaurants and bars. People also want to be near and have access to multiple forms of public transportation. Stanfield said a lot of millennials do have cars, but they choose not to drive them.
